Soft Shackles - Extremely Durable/Light Weight

As already mentioned, splicing handcraft is closely linked to water sports activities. Following this tradition, our rope shackles are used as boat gear accessories. They are the perfect replacement for traditional snap and screw shackles.

Rope shackles are especially advantegeous because of their light weight (they are 10 times lighter than same-strength metal shackles) and their high durability, if compared to regular shackles made from steel. Their light and soft properties mean that they will not chaffe wear points.

Because of their flexible construction they are relatively insensitive against point- and shear loads.

In yachting sport soft shackles are therefore used as sling gear for rigging purposes (e.g. halyard attached to Sail / sheet rope to fore sail) or to secure sailing gear (e.g. fender sheets).

Because of its specific construction they can't be opened under tension, yet are easy to open when relaxed (little pull line is spliced into the Dyneema sheet.

Depending on the final working load required, your rope shackle needs to come in a different rope diameter. For an easy and quick identification of its final working load, der.festmacher rope shackles also come in different colors. Therefore please choose your color version. They also come with a quick to open mechanism (pull line), which allows to easily open and release them.

Most commonly our customers prefer der.festmacher Soft-Shackles made from 5, 8 and 10 mm Dyneema rope sheets. If you prefer any different rope sheet diameter, please let us know.

It is important to note, that soft shackles exclusively are made for rigging purposes.
